2012 Heart-Art Contest Winner

"Heart Reflection" by artisan Karina Mendoza-Wittke is the winner of the HeartFest 2012 Heart-Art Contest.

HeartFest 2012 was a lot of fun. After six years the event just keeps getting better. High vibes, love, laughter, and music filled the halls of the Briscoe ArtWing. Big thanks to all who participated as artists and all the community folks who came out to show their appreciation and support of local art and craft.

This year we tried something new, our first ever Heart-Art Contest. 24 different art pieces were entered in this years show. Photography, multi-media, fine art, jewelry, and dried flower arrangements depicted the artists impression of the heart symbol. Roughly 100 guests voted for their favorite piece.

The winner of this years Heart-Art Contest was Karina Mendoza-Wittke with her photo piece titled “Heart Reflection”. Congratulations Karina! Karina, a jewelry artisan, entered a photograph and won a free entry into HeartFest 2013. Second place was a tie between Carola Marashi and Annette Trujillo. Carola’s piece was titled “Heart Stream”, and Annette’s piece was titled “Red Heart”. Third place was a photograph by Marcus Scott called “Granite Heart #1”.

Thank you to all who participated in making this event so much fun. We will do it again on Valentines weekend, 2013.

February Artist Profile on Carola Marashi

I just finished an interview with emerging artist Carola Marashi. Her heart-art pieces are imaginative abstracts that entice the viewer to go deeper. Some of her color pencil images hang in the realm of psychedelia. The HeartFest 2012 poster features a Carola original heart as the art. It is almost as if HeartFest was made for Carola as she is all about hearts. Our interview was a journey into the mind of the artist.
